The National Council of Jewellery Valuers was established in 1984 to promote and maintain the highest professional standards for jewellery valuation in Australia.

With around 550 members across Australia, The National Council of Jewellery Valuers has established itself as Australia's premier organisation for jewellery valuers.

Organisational Structure

Membership Prerequisites

Whilst there are different categories of membershipExternal Link, to become a full member, one must:


- Certificate IV in Gemmological Studies, Diploma of Gemmology or equivalent
- Practical Diamond Grading
- 5 years relevant trade experience
- Jewellery and Gemstone Valuation. Or;

  • Have a recognised industry specialty and be competent in valuing procedures within a designated specialist category.
  • Ongoing Membership Costs


    Members must commit to ongoing education as well as costly professional indemnity insurance. This is meant to ensure accurate and up to date valuations.

    Code of Ethics

    The NCJV has a code of ethics covering not only honesty, integrity and diligence, but also improvement and skill and knowledge.
