With around 550 members across Australia, The National Council of Jewellery Valuers has established itself as Australia's premier organisation for jewellery valuers.
Organisational Structure
Every state in Australia has a seperate division. This page
lists the contacts for each state.
Membership Prerequisites
Whilst, there are different categories of membership
, to become a full member, one must:
- Have completed a Dip. Gem (Valuation) run by the Gemmological Association of Australia with the following components:
- Certificate IV in Gemmological Studies
- GAA Practical Diamond Grading
- Synthetics and Gemmology Update
- Administration, Management and Human Resources, and
- GAA Jewellery and Gemstone Valuation. Or; - Have an acceptable accredited qualification which has equivalent components to those above. Or;
- Have a recognised industry specialty and be competent in valuing procedures within a designated specialist category.
Ongoing Membership Costs
As Haighs Jewellers
point out, members must commit to ongoing education as well as costly professional indemnity insurance. This is meant to ensure accurate and up to date valuations.
Code of Ethics
The NCJV has a code of ethics
covering not only honesty, integrity and diligence, but also improvement and skill and knowledge.
