Clarification on New GIA Report Numbers Beginning With 21 and 51

We’ve just received clarification from GIA that new report numbers beginning with 21 and 51 will be available on the online report check on October 1st.

Traditionally, GIA report numbers have been eight digits, eg: 17524534, however a couple of months ago, we started noticing report numbers in the form 21xxxxxxxx and 51xxxxxxxx. At first we thought these were from GIA’s labs overseas, specifically Mumbai or South Africa. However, when we sent our diamonds to GIA in California, we noticed they too had those wierd 21 numbers.

Time will tell whether or not people will adjust well to these new numbers…….
